KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung’s 85 Sky Tower (85大樓) is set for a new chapter, with Le Méridien confirmed as the brand that will operate the tower’s revived hotel section, according to information shared by Kaohsiung-focused social media accounts.

The hotel component was reportedly bought by Hai Pa Wang Group (海霸王集團) in 2019 for NT$5.4 billion, covering the first floor and floors 34 through 85. Since then, the site has undergone interior demolition and mechanical and electrical system upgrades, with broader work also expected to include exterior-wall and curtain-wall glass renewal.

The total reinvestment is expected to exceed NT$10 billion. The Kaohsiung Fans social media page claimed the revived hotel is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, with Le Méridien 85 Sky Tower set to occupy the upper section of the landmark tower.

The diagram provided shows the hotel planned for floors 37 through 85, including an observation area, while the lower sections are divided between other uses. It labels the north tower, floors 13 to 35, as residential suites, and the south tower, floors 13 to 35, as office space. It also shows department-store floors running from B2 to 12F, with some lower retail floors still under lease.

For Kaohsiung, the reopening would mark a long-awaited attempt to restore commercial life to one of the city’s most recognizable skyline landmarks.
