Political leaders expressed condolences and called for a full investigation Tuesday after two Republic of China Air Force officers were killed in a T-34C trainer crash at Gangshan Air Base (岡山基地) in Kaohsiung’s Gangshan District (岡山).
Initial reports indicated that one officer was thrown from the aircraft during the impact and was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The second officer became trapped in the wreckage due to severe damage to the aircraft. Rescue crews worked to remove him from the wreckage, but he also died.

Residents in Kaohsiung were surprised after dozens of stingrays appeared overnight in a pond near Chengcing Lake. The rays showed up so suddenly, and in such large numbers, that officials suspect they may have been dumped by a breeder.

The Transportation Bureau (高雄市交通局) said traffic controls would be introduced around major tourist sites during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 19 to 21, with large crowds expected at Cijin, Sizihwan, Hamasen, Pier-2, Shoushan Zoo, Fo Guang Shan, Cishan, Meinong, and Dream Mall. During the holiday, tourists with gasoline-powered scooters will be barred from boarding the Gushan-Cijin ferry from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Cijin residents, electric scooter riders, cyclists, and people on official business are exempt from the restriction.
The group is scheduled to perform three shows in Kaohsiung on Nov. 19, 21, and 22, marking a major pop-culture event for southern Taiwan and one of the city’s highest-profile international music bookings of the year.
Kaohsiung has many low-floor buses, but a spokesperson for an advocacy group says the bus stops themselves often do not match the needs of passengers. City Councilor Chiu Chun-hsien (邱俊憲) said that hospital bus stops may technically meet accessibility rules, but officials should also consider how passengers actually use them.
