KAOHSIUNG — As the nine-day Lunar New Year break approaches, Kaohsiung City officials are warning of heavy traffic at major tourist sites and urging visitors to use public transportation.

Beyond long-established destinations such as Cijin (旗津), Cishan Old Street (旗山老街), Sizihwan (西子灣), and the Pier-2 Art Center (駁二藝術特區), several newer attractions — including Guoling Park (果嶺公園) and the newly opened Senye Wildlife School (森野動物學校) in Neimen (內門區) — will welcome holiday crowds for the first time. Love River Bay (愛河灣) will host the 2026 Kaohsiung Wonderland winter festival, featuring a themed light display in collaboration with the popular Japanese character Ultraman.

The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau said flexible traffic controls will be implemented near major venues. In Cishan, Jhongjheng Road (中正路) through Yanping First Road (延平一路) will be converted into a pedestrian zone during peak periods, with additional controls possible along Provincial Highway 3 (台3線) and nearby intersections from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., depending on congestion. Visitors are encouraged to park at designated lots and transfer via shuttle buses.

For Senye Wildlife School, shuttle services will operate from Cishan Transit Station (旗山轉運站). Travelers can reach Cishan via express bus from Zuoying HSR Station (高鐵左營站), TRA Xinzuoying Station (台鐵新左營站), or Kaohsiung MRT Zuoying Station (捷運左營站). At Shoushan Zoo (壽山動物園), parking will be available at the Gushan Second Road public lot, with shuttle connections to the zoo entrance. The zoo can also be accessed via the light rail or TRA Gushan Station (鼓山站).

Around Love River Bay, phased traffic controls will affect Wufu Third and Fourth Roads, Cisian Third Road, Chenggong Road, and Haibian Road, except on Lunar New Year’s Eve when the venue will close. Nearby transit options include Yanchengpu MRT Station (捷運鹽埕埔站) and the light rail stops at True Love Pier (真愛碼頭) and the Cruise Terminal (旅運中心), along with multiple city bus routes.

Officials reminded drivers to slow down at intersections, yield to pedestrians, and strictly avoid drunk driving during the holiday surge. Real-time traffic updates are available through the Kaohsiung City real-time traffic information network and official social media channels.
