KAOHSIUNG — A food poisoning outbreak linked to a spring roll vendor at Jhengyi Market in Lingya District (高雄市苓雅區正義市場) has now sickened a reported 157 people, say Kaohsiung City health authorities.

The incident emerged over the weekend as dozens of residents sought medical care for gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at the stall. Officials said the total number of reported cases had increased by 17 as of Tuesday morning.

Health authorities have identified Salmonella as the likely cause, with multiple patients testing positive for the bacteria, which is commonly associated with egg-based ingredients.

The vendor was ordered to halt operations for seven days starting Sunday. Authorities also imposed a fine of NT$1.44 million and referred the case to prosecutors for further investigation.

Officials noted that Salmonella has an incubation period of between six and 72 hours, meaning additional cases could still emerge.

All affected individuals are reported to be in stable condition and recovering.
