CEBU — A delegation of students and faculty from Kaohsiung (高雄)-based Shu-Te University (樹德科技大學) completed a week-long educational and cultural exchange tour in Cebu, Philippines, spanning from June 29 to July 5.
The delegation was led by Dr. Joseph Anthony Narciso Z. Tiangco, a Filipino national who has served as a faculty member at Shu-Te University for more than 20 years. The participating student cohort consisted of 18 individuals, including 14 students from Taiwan and four international students from Japan.
During the week-long itinerary in the Central Visayas region, the delegation held official meetings with municipal leadership in Lapu-Lapu City, where they were received by Mayor Maria Cynthia “Cindi” King Chan and Representative Junard “Ahong” Chan. The group subsequently traveled to the municipality of Argao to meet with Mayor Allan M. Sesaldo.
The educational itinerary was organized in direct coordination with Department of Education Region VII officials, including Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Marilyn S. Andales and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Ronald Ferrer.
Under the framework of the exchange program, the delegation conducted site visits to four public secondary institutions in the area: Looc National High School, Marigondon National High School, Babag National High School, and Mactan National High School. At each site, Shu-Te University students participated in structured cultural programming, including performances of traditional Philippine folk dances, demonstrations of Arnis stick-fighting martial arts, and instructional sessions on local culinary traditions.
According to institutional enrollment data, Shu-Te University currently hosts more than 350 students from Cebu, making the campus in Kaohsiung a central hub for Cebuano scholars studying in Taiwan.
University officials stated that the tour aimed to reinforce cross-border educational partnerships, expand international exposure for attending students, and strengthen institutional ties between educational entities in Kaohsiung and the Central Visayas region.
