KAOHSIUNG — The Minghua branch of Da Tan Dian KTV (大帑殿明華店) will close at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, ending a 30-year run near the intersection of Bo’ai Road (博愛路) and Minghua Road (明華路), according to the Liberty Times, which called the closing “shídài de yǎnlèi /時代的眼淚,” literally meaning “tears of an era,” but which is better rendered in English as “the end of an era.”
The company announced the closure Saturday. Opened in 1996, the branch became known for its garden setting and large private karaoke rooms, including rooms that could accommodate more than 30 people. It had undergone renovations as recently as last November.
Customers visiting before the closure are being offered a NT$1,000 voucher per room for use at the company’s Dashun flagship branch (大順旗艦店), along with a movie ticket redemption voucher, according to the report. Customers should check the company’s terms before relying on the offer.
The announcement surprised longtime patrons, some of whom recalled visiting during their school years. The company has not given a reason for closing the Minghua branch. Its Dashun location remains open.
