KAOHSIUNG — Runners can welcome 2027 on Pingtung County’s Pacific coast during a New Year’s Day sunrise run at Jialeshui Scenic Area 佳樂水風景區 in Manzhou Township 滿州鄉.
The Pingtung Wind Region Sunrise Run 屏東風域曙光路跑 will begin early on Jan. 1, taking participants along a coastal route known for its ocean views and unusual rock formations. Registration remains open through Nov. 21.
The county’s Transportation and Tourism Department said aid stations will offer locally produced food and drinks, including Manzhou dragon fruit juice, onion crackers, and freshly cooked dumplings containing yulai mushroom 雨來菇.
Runners will receive a post-race breakfast featuring dishes from communities around the Hengchun Peninsula. These include sweet mung bean soup known as lüdou suan 綠豆蒜, rice balls made with dragon fruit rice or preserved radish rice, and traditional foods from Mudan Township 牡丹鄉, including cinavu 吉拿富, maqaw sausage, and tea eggs seasoned with prickly ash.
Participants can also make a personalized leather keychain during a free leather-stamping activity at the event.
Free event shuttle buses will operate to help reduce traffic and carbon emissions. The department also encouraged participants to use Taiwan Tourist Shuttle services 9117B and 9189 to reach the area.
Registered runners may pay an additional NT$499 to join an ecological tour of Houwan 後灣, Longshui 龍水 or Shuiwaku 水蛙窟.
The guided tours will introduce visitors to the peninsula’s natural environment, landscapes and community life.
