KAOHSIUNG — The restoration of Banana Pier (香蕉碼頭), neighborhood sidewalk improvements and new recreation spaces were among 51 public projects recognized at the 2026 City Engineering Quality Gold Awards (城市工程品質金質獎), according to the city government.

The awards were presented Sept. 30. Now in its 12th year, the competition is led this year by the Kaohsiung Architects Association (高雄市建築師公會), with categories covering building construction, civil engineering, landscaping, and other types of work.

The Public Works Bureau’s Banana Pier renovation received a distinction-level gold award in the public-building category. According to the city’s announcement, “高雄建設實力有感升級 51項工程獲金質獎肯定”, the project preserved the building’s steel trusses from the 1950s while incorporating glass and green-building features.

Four bureau projects received gold awards in civil engineering for improvements to pedestrian environments:
- Gushan (鼓山): Jhonghua First Road (中華一路), between Makadao Road (馬卡道路) and Cingfeng Street (慶豐街).
- Niaosong (鳥松): A lakeside sidewalk along Wenqian Road (文前路), between Huanhu Road (環湖路) and West Bank Road (西岸道路).
- Gushan: Streets surrounding Gushan Sports Center (鼓山運動中心), at the former Jhongshan Elementary School (中山國小).
- Nanzih (楠梓): Youchang Street (右昌街), between Lane 100 and Junsiao Road (軍校路).
The city said the projects included smoother walking surfaces and accessible ramps.
Three other bureau projects received landscaping gold awards: the renewal of Yancheng Heart Civic Plaza (鹽埕之心市民廣場), the city’s parent-child recreation park project (高雄親子遊樂園區), and the first construction package for a park in Renwu’s 92nd land readjustment area (仁武區第92期重劃區).

The bureau’s Facebook announcement highlighted these eight projects within the citywide total of 51 recognized public works.
