CHIAYI — Chiayi City’s annual light art exhibition (光織影舞) ended Oct. 11 after attracting a reported 1.53 million visits over 17 days, a record for the event, according to the city government.

Held at Beixianghu Park (北香湖公園), this year’s exhibition used the centenary of Winnie-the-Pooh (小熊維尼) as its theme, combining 10 light installations with weekend performances and a market.

A nine-meter-tall Pooh holding a three-meter red balloon and a giant illuminated moon above the lake were among the most popular photo spots, according to a report carried by Pingtung Times.

Mayor Huang Min-hui (黃敏惠) visited after the exhibition closed to thank city staff and supporting teams. The event began in 2020 and marked its seventh edition this year.

The city reported another 440,000 visits during testing before the official opening. The figures count visits rather than individual visitors.

More than 70% of visitors came from outside Chiayi City, according to the city’s figures, with overseas attendees including travelers from Hong Kong, Macau, Japan and South Korea.

Market vendors reported increased crowds, particularly families during the holiday periods. A honey-flavored version of traditional egg ice, sold from a themed mobile cart, also showcased locally produced honey.

The exhibition ran from Sept. 25 through Oct. 11, spanning the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays.
