KAOHSIUNG — Police arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of slashing the seats of dozens of parked scooters in Fongshan District (鳳山區) on Wednesday morning, Oct. 14, according to TVBS.
A preliminary police count found 38 damaged scooters along Dongfu Street, Jhongshan East Road, Fenglin Road and Chengde Street. Surveillance footage appeared to show a man carrying a fruit knife and cutting seats on scooters parked beside the roads.
Several owners reported the damage after noticing that nearby scooters had also been targeted. Fongshan Precinct (鳳山分局) formed an investigative team and reviewed footage from intersections and local businesses.
Officers traced the suspect to a convenience store on Fenglin Road and took him to a police station. TVBS reported that he did not cooperate fully during questioning, gave inconsistent accounts, and denied the alleged acts.
Police obtained a warrant from the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office (高雄地方檢察署), formally arrested the man at the station and seized a fruit knife suspected of being used in the vandalism.
The case was transferred to prosecutors for investigation of suspected property damage and offenses against public order. Authorities were still working to establish the motive and confirm the final number of damaged scooters.
