KAOHSIUNG — A two-day family festival highlighting Daliao District’s (大寮區) red bean and water chestnut culture will be held May 23 and 24 outside Daliao MRT Station (大寮站), the Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau said.

The “2026 Doudhen Lai Liaoliao” event will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the grass area outside Exit 1 of the station. The bureau said the event is designed as a family-friendly outing for children while giving visitors a closer look at Daliao’s agricultural and cultural identity.

Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-lin (高閔琳) said Daliao is known for specialty crops, including red beans and water chestnuts, and has become more accessible since the opening of the MRT.

The event will feature five parent-child challenge games, including water chestnut shell fabric dyeing, red bean clapper DIY, red brick bowling, and other games using local agricultural and brick-making themes. Families that complete three challenges can exchange their results for freshly baked red bean cakes or red bean ice cream, with 500 servings available each day.

Stage performances are scheduled across both days, with acts including Candy Planet Party, clown balloon shows, Little Sparrow Band, roadside dessert group Lu Bian Shi Yi Ren, Ting Chao-wei, Yu Pi, Violin Clara, and Chang Liang-han.

More than 30 food and cultural-creative vendors will join the market, including local associations, farmers’ groups and specialty food sellers.

The bureau said the festival will also feature two local walking tours organized with a Daliao cultural association. The tours include visits to Rueirong Red Brick Factory, historic homes, and red bean cake-making activities. Registration for the tours has already sold out, according to the bureau.
