KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung Port’s cruise terminal is approaching its third anniversary, with preliminary plans under discussion to introduce a 360-degree rotating restaurant on the building’s top floor, according to local reports Friday.
The Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal, a landmark waterfront facility built at a cost of about NT$5.1 billion, opened in March 2023. Taiwan International Ports Corp. (TIPC) said any proposal for a revolving restaurant on the 15th floor remains in the planning stage and has not been finalized.
Current space planning envisions the third floor as an international cruise conference hall for small to mid-sized events, with the fourth floor designated as a training center. The fifth floor is slated to house a Taiwan Ports exploration gallery, while the sixth and seventh floors are intended for exhibition and convention use. During cruise calls, these spaces could host local exhibitions and cultural events, and at other times serve as venues for startup launches, industry exchanges, and international conferences.
Audit data released last year, however, shows that businesses are not rushing to move into the futuristic-looking terminal building. Several floors, including the originally planned port facilities exhibition area and port history museum on the 15th floor, as well as large meeting rooms on the third floor and floors four through seven, remain open for leasing. The audit report noted that limited surrounding foot traffic and the still-developing commercial district around the terminal are complicating efforts to attract tenants.
