KAOHSIUNG — In response to a recent series of collisions involving heavy vehicles, the Cianjhen Precinct (前鎮分局) of the Kaohsiung City Police Department has implemented a “dual-track” strategy that combines public education and intensified enforcement.

From January 1 to March 25, 2026, precinct officers issued 803 citations for heavy vehicle violations. The breakdown of offenses included:

    • Operating on prohibited routes: 392 cases
    • Illegal parking: 290 cases (an increase of 195 compared to the same period in 2025)
    • Overloading: 35 cases
    • Illegal turns: 32 cases
    • Other violations: 54 cases

Authorities said the crackdown is part of a dual-track strategy combining stricter enforcement with public education. On March 25, police held a traffic safety event at Ren’ai Elementary School (仁愛國小). The event featured a concrete mixer truck brought onto campus so students could sit in the driver’s seat. The exercise was designed to provide a firsthand perspective on “blind spots” and the “inner wheel difference” — the dangerous gap created when a large vehicle turns.

Police have also designated several high-risk corridors for increased patrols, including Jhongshan Road (中山路), Jhong’an Road (中安路), Guojian Road (擴建路), Sinsheng Road (新生路), and Jinfu Road (金福路), where heavy vehicle traffic is frequent.

Enforcement priorities include failure to install required visibility assistance systems, illegal route usage, overloading, and improper parking. Police said more than 2,300 vehicles have been stopped for inspection so far this year, a significant increase from 2025.
