KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) joined a mountain cleanup event Saturday at Guanyinshan Scenic Area (觀音山風景區) in Dashu District (大社區), calling on residents to help keep hiking areas clean and safe.

Chen said hiking has become a regular form of exercise for many Kaohsiung residents, with the city’s hills and mountain areas serving as important public recreation spaces.

He urged hikers to follow “Leave No Trace” principles by taking their trash back down the mountain and helping maintain local trails.

Chen said Guanyinshan is one of Dashu’s major natural and recreational areas. The city has budgeted about NT$30 million for environmental improvements and facility upgrades in the area, including trail maintenance, public facility repairs, improvements to nearby spaces, and stronger safety measures.

The city said the work is intended to improve the overall hiking environment and make the area safer and more accessible for visitors.
