KAOHSIUNG — A 64-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of public endangerment after police said her breath-alcohol reading exceeded 0.8 milligrams per liter when she was stopped while riding a scooter in Gushan District (鼓山區).
According to the Kaohsiung City Police Department, patrol officers saw the rider, identified only by the surname Chen (陳), allegedly run a red light at the intersection of Jiuru 4th Road (九如四路) and Yinchuan Street (銀川街).
Officers said they noticed a strong smell of alcohol and administered a breath test. The reading was more than 0.8 milligrams per liter, according to police.
Chen initially denied drinking and said she had only eaten ginger duck, a Taiwanese ginger-and-duck stew. Police said she later acknowledged drinking whisky at home before riding the scooter.
Police arrested Chen and referred the case for investigation on suspicion of public endangerment.
Gushan Precinct (鼓山分局) urged people not to drive or ride after consuming alcohol and advised arranging alternative transportation in advance.
