KAOHSIUNG — A suspected drunk driver crashed a black sedan onto the grounds of Kaohsiung’s Kaisyuan MRT Station (凱旋站) early Saturday after losing control and hitting several parked vehicles, police said.
The Liberty Times reports that officers from the Cianjhen Precinct (前鎮分局) were called to a crash on Jhongshan 3rd Road (中山三路) shortly after midnight on May 16.
Police said a 36-year-old man surnamed Sun (孫) was driving north to south in the fast lane with a 40-year-old woman surnamed Lin (林) in the passenger seat when the car veered right for unknown reasons.
The vehicle struck one electric-assisted bicycle and two heavy motorcycles parked on the roadside before leaving the roadway and mounting the MRT station area, police said.
Sun and Lin suffered multiple cuts and bruises and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said Sun’s alcohol test exceeded the legal limit and that he was referred to prosecutors on suspicion of offenses against public safety.
Lin initially insisted that she had been driving, but police said her account was contradicted by the evidence. She was also referred for investigation on suspicion of taking the blame for another person and causing false information to be entered into official records.
Police said the exact cause of the crash and liability would be further reviewed by the traffic division.
