Renwu and Ciaotou led district population gains over the past year as Kaohsiung lost more than 16,000 registered residents. Only five of the city’s 38 districts grew.

Kaohsiung is offering vouchers for certified members of the public who capture adult green iguanas, hoping to reduce breeding before mating season.

The city will announce rental details on July 27, and applications will be accepted from Aug. 6 to Aug. 25. Applicants must be adult ROC citizens who either have household registration in Kaohsiung or study or work in the city. Household members must not own a home in Kaohsiung, and the average monthly income per household member must not exceed NT$59,395.

Kaohsiung City Government (高雄市政府) reportedly decided around midnight on a citywide stop to work and school after updated rainfall forecasts showed significant rain was still expected during the Friday morning commute. The city said the measure was intended to reduce the risk of travel during possible extreme torrential rain.
