Taiwanese singer Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕) visited the Seoul edition of Waterbomb music festival ahead of her planned appearance at Waterbomb Kaohsiung 2026 in September, organizers said.

The bridge drew criticism in recent days after residents said the red railings along the bridge deck resembled Japanese torii gates. Argentine pianist Martha Argerich will lead a chamber music concert at the Pingtung Performing Arts Center (屏東演藝廳) on Nov. 15 as part of the venue’s 10th-anniversary program. The concert, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., will also be one of the main events of the 2026 South Wind Music Festival. Argerich will be joined by Belgian violinists Michael Guttman and Yossif Ivanov, as well as Taiwanese violinist William Wei (魏靖儀), who became a co-concertmaster of the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in May.

The Cabinet on Thursday outlined a rail development plan aimed at cutting travel time between Kaohsiung and Taitung to about 90 minutes, with a proposed high-speed rail extension through central Kaohsiung to Pingtung forming a key part of the project.

A yellow wind advisory is in effect Friday and Saturday for Kaohsiung and Pingtung, as well as several northern and eastern areas and offshore islands. Sustained winds could reach 39 kilometers per hour or more, with gusts exceeding 62 kilometers per hour. The outer circulation of Typhoon Noul (紅霞颱風) will bring prolonged rainfall to Hualien County, Taitung County, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County on July 24 and July 25, according to weather forecasters.

The two-day competition began Thursday and wraps up today at InterContinental Kaohsiung (高雄洲際酒店). It is part of a global series organized by Pegasus Tech Ventures, which brings together startups, venture capital firms, and technology executives. Organizers say the Startup World Cup includes more than 100 regional competitions across six continents. The winner in Kaohsiung will advance to the global competition, scheduled for Nov. 4–6 at Hilton Union Square in San Francisco.

Liu’s father told local media that his older son also died last year after riding without a license. He said he had repeatedly warned the 17-year-old not to ride, citing earlier incidents, including one in which he himself had taken a scooter without permission and crashed into a utility pole. The father also said Liu had been drinking before the crash, though police have not announced the official cause.

Construction crews have begun removing underground foundation piles left from the former Zihciang Overpass in Fongshan District, as work continues on the Kaohsiung MRT Yellow Line. The city said crews will use casing equipment to cut and pull out the old piles, a method intended to reduce noise, vibration, and dust.

Two 35-meter whale kites will make their Taiwan debut at this year’s Cijin Kite Festival, which opens Saturday at Cijin Beach, the Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau said. The 2026 Cijin Kite Festival and Inflatable Water Park will be held July 25 and 26 and Aug. 1 and 2 near Love Gate (鍾愛之門) at Cijin Beach.
