KAOHSIUNG / TAIPEI — Taiwanese authorities tightened security across major transit hubs after a deadly attack in Taipei spilled beyond the capital in the form of an online threat referencing Kaohsiung. The incident in Taipei involved a lone attacker who used smoke devices to create confusion before carrying out a knife assault in the area around Taipei Main Station, killing multiple people and injuring others before the situation was brought under control by police.

Shortly after the attack, a post circulating online claimed that a similar assault was being planned in southern Taiwan, explicitly naming Kaohsiung Station. While authorities stressed that the post had not been verified, the threat was treated as credible enough to trigger a visible response. Kaohsiung police, working alongside Railway Police and national security units, increased patrols, added security checks at transportation nodes, and began tracing the digital origin of the message.

Below: Police are seeking the person who posted this message.

Officials emphasized that the measures are precautionary and aimed at preventing copycat violence, a known risk following high-profile attacks. Residents in Kaohsiung were urged to remain calm but vigilant, report suspicious behavior, and rely on official channels for updates, as investigators continue to determine whether the online threat was connected to the Taipei attacker or was an attempt to exploit public fear.
