KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan — Six big rigs smashed into each other on National Freeway 1 Monday morning, dumping a steel coil onto the road and grinding northbound traffic to a crawl.
No one was hurt, police said.
The crash hit just before 10 a.m. near the 368.7-kilometer mark on the Ruilong stretch. Three container trucks, a full trailer, a passenger coach and a flatbed truck were involved. Police think traffic ahead slowed suddenly and the heavy vehicles behind couldn’t stop in time.

The trucks ended up sprawled across the lanes in a zigzag. A steel coil broke loose and landed on the pavement. Three lanes were shut. Only the outer shoulder stayed open. Traffic slowed to as little as 14 kph. ETtoday
The National Highway Police Bureau’s Fifth Corps said no one was trapped or injured. One local outlet reported a minor injury. CNA
Tow crews are still clearing the mess. It’s expected to take hours.
The cause is under investigation.
