PINGTUNG — The 2026 Pingtung Summer Carnival (屏東夏日狂歡祭) opened Friday night at Pingtung County Citizens Park (屏東縣民公園), launching nearly two months of children’s activities, play equipment, and themed performances.

Pingtung County Commissioner Chou Chun-mi (周春米) attended the opening ceremony, where costumed characters, including Crayon Shin-chan (蠟筆小新) and Qiaohu (巧虎) appeared with families and children.

This year’s event features a Crayon Shin-chan interactive exhibition, large outdoor play equipment, and four parent-child theater performances, according to the county government.

The outdoor area features a 10-meter-tall Crayon Shin-chan figure and a 6-meter-tall Shiro figure on the lawn. The county said the carnival will also retain its popular pirate ship play area while adding six newly customized play structures and upgrading its inclusive playground.

The first major performance was 7:30 Friday evening at the park’s Tangjingti Plaza (糖晶體廣場), with O Theatre (O劇團) presenting “Qiaohu Fantasy Music World 2: Bizarropia” (巧虎奇幻音樂世界2-BIZARROPIA). The show will include live orchestral music, singers, stage sets, and costumed characters.

The Crayon Shin-chan exhibition, titled “Spin! Time-Space Adventure” (玩轉! 時空大冒險), includes scenes from the anime and films, along with interactive areas where visitors can join the Kasukabe Defense Force. The county said the exhibition also incorporates Pingtung landmarks and local scenery into its themed scenes.

The carnival’s play equipment will be open from July 4 to Aug. 30, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Hours will be extended to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Crayon Shin-chan exhibition will run until Oct. 11 and will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The county said both the play area and exhibition will be closed every Wednesday during the event period for maintenance.
