KAOHSIUNG — A woman wanted in a fraud case was arrested in Cijin District (旗津) after allegedly giving police her sister’s identity and claiming that her husband was her brother-in-law.
Officers from Zhongzhou Police Station (中洲派出所) stopped a scooter for a traffic violation on Cijin 2nd Road, according to the Liberty Times, citing Gushan Precinct (鼓山分局).
Police became suspicious after the male rider appeared nervous and struggled to explain who the woman riding behind him was.
The woman, surnamed Chen (陳), told the officers that she was not carrying identification and provided them with her sister’s personal information. She then claimed the man driving the scooter was her brother-in-law.
He was actually her husband.
Police said Chen did not appear to match the identity she had provided and continued questioning her.
An officer eventually asked her directly whether she was the person police were looking for. Chen reportedly smiled before admitting her true identity.
She was arrested on an outstanding warrant related to a fraud case and transferred to the Kaohsiung District Court.
