KAOHSIUNG — A student’s early warning helped firefighters contain a stall fire at Cingnian Night Market (青年夜市) in Fongshan District (鳳山區) shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, with no injuries reported.
According to the United Daily News, the city fire department received the report at about 3:50 a.m. after the student saw thick smoke while passing the market near the intersection of Jhonglun 1st Road (中崙一路) and Kaisyuan Road (凱旋路).
The fire department sent two vehicles and six personnel to the scene. Crews found miscellaneous material burning at a stall that had closed for the night and extinguished the fire shortly after 4 a.m., preventing it from spreading to neighboring vendors.
Investigators initially suspected an electrical fault involving the stall’s wiring. The cause remained under investigation.
The student later wrote on social media that smoke was already pouring from the market when the call was made and that flames appeared soon afterward.
The stall owner responded online, thanking the student for acting quickly. The owner said the stall had been lost, but the warning had stopped the fire from reaching nearby businesses.
The owner promised the student a permanent 50% discount if the business is able to reopen.
