KAOHSIUNG — A new 24-hectare park north of Chengcing Lake (澄清湖) is nearing completion, turning previously unused woodland into public space with walking paths, sports facilities and a flood-control pond.

Mengli Forest Park (夢裡森林公園) has already attracted visitors as construction enters its final stages, Liberty Times reported on October 2. The report did not give an official opening date.
According to the city’s Parks Office, the park sits beside the planned National Indigenous Museum site. Facilities include a pond-viewing area, a banyan tree plaza, open grassland and a forest lookout, alongside pickleball courts, a skating rink and parking for cars and scooters.
The park’s western edge is near Chengcing Lake’s rear entrance, across a road from the lake grounds. A new path on the eastern side provides access from the adjoining residential neighborhood.
The project also serves a drainage function. The Water Resources Bureau deepened an existing pond to create the Mengli detention basin (夢裡滯洪池), which can hold approximately 16,500 tonnes of water. It is designed to help regulate drainage from the Caogong New Canal (曹公新圳) toward downstream areas in Renwu (仁武).
More than 100 trees have been planted around the basin, adding to the woodland retained within the park.
The Parks Office said Mengli would join Chengcing Lake, Guoling Nature Park (果嶺自然公園) and Shuanghu Park (雙湖公園) in a wider network totaling nearly 500 hectares of parkland and green space.
