KAOHSIUNG — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) are scheduled to attend Democratic Progressive Party mayoral candidate Lai Jui-lung’s (賴瑞隆) campaign headquarters launch rally on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Former Premier and Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) and incumbent Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) will also attend, according to the guest lineup announced by Lai’s campaign on Oct. 15.
The rally will be held at the intersection of Zihyou Road (自由路) and Yihui Road (議會路) in Fongshan District (鳳山區), near Fongshan West MRT station (鳳山西站). Admission begins at 6 p.m., with the program starting at 6:30 p.m.
The event site is separate from Lai’s campaign headquarters, which is in Zuoying District (左營區), near the intersection of Boai Road (博愛路) and Zengzih Road (曾子路).
Lai said the appearances reflected support for his plans for Kaohsiung’s development and international engagement. He also emphasized his experience in city government and the legislature, saying he intended to build on previous administrations’ work.

The campaign has promoted the gathering with a cat-themed motif, referring to Lai and several of the announced guests being cat owners.
Meanwhile, Kuomintang candidate Ko Chih-en (柯志恩) has announced her own weekend events. According to CNA’s Oct. 14 report, she will hold a rally beside Gangshan Riverside Park (岡山河堤公園) at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16, followed by a temple-front concert at Fongyi Temple (鳳儀宮) in Siaogang District (小港區) at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 17.
