KAOHSIUNG — The Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Lumina (高雄巨門扶輪社) officially became a member of Rotary International on Oct. 14.

The club conducts its activities in English. According to a public Facebook post by Jamie Lewis, about half its members are Taiwanese, and half are international.

Members include educators, entrepreneurs, and local professionals.

“What started as a group of people coming together has now become something much bigger — a community built on friendship, professional connections, and a shared desire to make a difference,” Lewis wrote.

The club plans to serve migrant communities in Taiwan, specifically focusing on populations from Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Lewis noted the club aims to “build bridges and serve those who are too often overlooked.”

“Many have left their families and familiar surroundings behind to work and build better futures,” Lewis stated. “We believe they deserve the same dignity, compassion, and sense of belonging that we all hope to experience when living far from home.”

To celebrate receiving its charter, the club will hold a ceremony on Nov. 15 on the ninth floor of the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel (漢來大飯店).

The bilingual event will be conducted in English and Mandarin. Registration opens at 11 a.m., and the ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.

Anyone interested in attending or learning more about the club is welcome. Tickets are NT$1,500 per guest, and the required dress code is black tie or formal attire.
