PINGTUNG COUNTY — Students from the Information Science and Electronics departments of Hengchun Industrial and Commercial Vocational High School (恆春工商) delivered another strong performance at the annual “National Intelligent Technology Innovation Applications” robotics competition, defeating top university teams from across the country for the fourth consecutive year and sweeping all the gold, silver, and bronze medals—a remarkable new record.

According to a report in the Liberty Times, behind this outstanding achievement is the well-known husband-and-wife leadership team of Director Hsu Fei-Ching (許斐菁) and Director Lin Wei-Kuan (林維寬). Lin said he was thrilled that this year they continued competing in the same two major categories as last year—the “AI Visual Recognition Speed Robot” event and the “Smart Car Remote-Control Racing” event—and once again “took every award.” In the most difficult visual-recognition category, which is a mixed division competing directly against university students, Hengchun’s students held on to both the gold and silver medals for the fourth straight year, an impressive result.

This year’s standout student was Chao Kai-Fan (趙凱凡) from the Electronics Department, who earned two gold medals. Hsu said students devoted more than a month of after-school hours to practice and make coding adjustments, allowing the team to enter the contest fully prepared. Last year’s gold-medal winner Lee Yu-An (李祐安), first-time competitor Chang Po-Yen (張柏彥), and freshman Chang Chun-Cheng (張淳政), who had already competed twice in junior high school, also performed strongly.

Principal Ho Chun-Cheng (何峻誠) said rural technology education must not fall behind. This year, Lin led sixteen students to the competition, and every participant received an award. He thanked Hsu for technical guidance and acknowledged financial support from the Pingtung County Government’s “High-Tech Industry Talent Development Program,” which he said has been key to sustaining the school’s success.
