PINGTUNG — Construction officially began on the Neipu Transport Hub on Sunday, marking a major step toward improving public transportation connectivity in Neipu Township (內埔鄉), Pingtung County.

The Neipu Transport Station project is being built on land opposite the Neipu Township Farmers’ Association, and Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi (周春米) said the project carries a total budget of NT$69.85 million. The facility is scheduled for completion in October 2026.

Chou said the transport hub is expected to become a key transfer center for southern Pingtung, improving service quality for public transportation users in Neipu and neighboring townships.

Local officials, community representatives, and residents attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Several residents said the township, home to more than 50,000 people, has long lacked a centralized and well-equipped transfer point for students, commuters, and elderly residents seeking medical care.

According to the county government, the new station will consist of a single-story building covering approximately 85.83 ping. It will include two dedicated bus bays for northbound and southbound intercity coaches, as well as parking spaces for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. The hub is expected to serve about 15 bus routes with roughly 120 daily services.

Planned facilities include a passenger service center, a digital timetable and route management system, and landscaped green spaces. County officials said the station will also support future integration with other transport modes.

Chou said the transport hub is part of a broader development strategy for Neipu, which she described as a transportation node in Pingtung County, serving an area with a large Hakka community. She added that once completed, the facility will help link residential areas with cultural and tourism destinations, supporting regional mobility and development.
