KAOHSIUNG — A mobile drink vendor at the Yancheng Night Market (鹽埕夜市) is under fire after a customer discovered ants in their winter melon snow ice (冬瓜雪淇冰). The customer, who visited the market on Saturday night (January 17), reported feeling an unusual texture while drinking. Upon inspection, they found several large ants at the bottom of the cup.

When the customer returned to the stall to complain, the owner reportedly dismissed the issue, stating, “So what if there are ants, it’s not a big deal, right?” (有螞蟻應該沒關係吧). The interaction was shared on social media, sparking a wave of backlash regarding food safety standards at mobile stalls. Kaohsiung Health Bureau is expected to conduct a follow-up inspection of the market vendors to ensure hygiene protocols are being met, particularly as the city prepares for a surge in tourism during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
