KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung Port (高雄港) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Port of Gdynia (格丁尼亞港) on Friday, marking a step toward deeper maritime cooperation between Taiwan and Central and Eastern Europe.

    Port of Gdynia, Poland.

Kaohsiung Port, Taiwan’s largest international commercial harbor, plays a central role as a container transshipment hub in the Asia-Pacific. The Port of Gdynia, one of Poland’s key deep-water ports on the Baltic Sea, has been expanding its role in European logistics while investing in smart port systems and infrastructure upgrades.

Under the MOU, the two ports will establish a long-term exchange mechanism focused on areas including smart port development, operational management, safety systems, digitalization, and green port initiatives. The agreement also includes cooperation across shipping and logistics supply chains.

Officials said the partnership is expected to strengthen links between Taiwan and European maritime networks, while improving operational efficiency and competitiveness through shared expertise and technology.

Future cooperation may include joint workshops, seminars, and reciprocal visits, as both sides seek to build a more integrated Asia–Europe shipping framework.
