KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung’s new Gushan Sports Center (鼓山運動中心) has opened near the border of Gushan District (鼓山區) and Zuoying District (左營區), giving residents another indoor venue for exercise during the city’s long hot-weather season.

The center, converted from the former Zhongshan Elementary School (中山國小) campus, includes a gym, badminton courts, pickleball courts, and multipurpose classrooms. During its trial operation period, gym use starts at NT$50 per hour, with promotional discounts also available for fitness courses and personal training.
The Kaohsiung City Government said the project cost about NT$370 million and was designed as more than a sports venue. The site also includes a kindergarten, an elderly day-care center, and a covered sports court, creating a shared public-service space for nearby communities.
City officials said demand for indoor sports facilities has continued to rise, with visits to Kaohsiung sports centers topping 2.16 million last year.
More sports centers are planned across the city. Facilities in Nanzihkeng (楠梓坑), Sanmin (三民), Luzhu (路竹), and Siaogang (小港) are expected to be completed by the end of the year, while the Cishan Sports Center (旗山運動中心) is scheduled to open next year.
