KAOHSIUNG — The redevelopment of Kaohsiung Main Station (高雄車站) continues to move forward. The spaces under the station’s two large “wings” — the long canopies that extend on both sides of the main hall — are gradually opening, including new scooter parking and future bus transfer areas.

The underground scooter parking lots on both the east and west sides officially opened this week, according to Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA, 台鐵).

    • West Side: About 180 spaces, located on B1, with entry from Railway 3rd St. (鐵道三街) / Jianguo 3rd Rd. Lane 46 (建國三路46巷), traveling south → north.
    • East Side: About 680 spaces, split between B1 and BM (mezzanine), with entry from Railway 2nd St. (鐵道二街) / Dalian St. (大連街), traveling north → south.

    Parking fee: NT$40 per use.

At the same time, Dalian St. beneath the east wing has reopened to traffic (one-way southbound). New underground walkways connecting the parking areas and the station’s circular plaza are also open, revealing future retail spaces and newly accessible public restrooms. The former Railway Police Substation (鐵路警察局高雄分駐所), once underground during construction, has also re-emerged in the station layout

Bus Transfer Centers Now in Leasing Phase

Located above the scooter parking, on the east side, plans call for an intercity bus transfer center (約 2,200 m² indoor space), while the west Side will feature the Kaohsiung city bus transfer station (約 480 m² indoor space. The TRA Asset Development Division (資產開發處) is currently seeking operators. Bidding submissions close on Nov. 5.

Once a commercial operator for the station’s retail complex is finalized, the Kaohsiung City Government (高市府) says it will move to finalize bus routes, coordinate with operators, and fully integrate train, city bus, and intercity bus transfers into one system.

    Simple takeaway:
Scooter parking is open. The underground walkways and public spaces are taking shape. The bus transfer hubs are now being leased. Once the commercial operator signs, Kaohsiung Main Station will transition into a full transportation hub, linking rail, MRT, intercity buses, and city buses in one location — the long-planned “new heart” of northern Kaohsiung.
