KAOHSIUNG — As semiconductor production accelerates in southern Taiwan following new investments by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., universities in Kaohsiung are reshaping curricula to meet rapidly growing demand for industry-ready talent across manufacturing, packaging, and testing.
Several local institutions have introduced customized programs designed in cooperation with major industry players. National Sun Yat-sen University (國立中山大學) and National University of Kaohsiung (國立高雄科技大學) have expanded semiconductor-related coursework, while National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (國立高雄大學) has established a dedicated semiconductor talent training base focused on midstream processes and equipment operations.
National University of Kaohsiung has partnered with Zhen Ding Technology Holding to launch an AI-focused printed circuit board program, with industry engineers teaching core courses starting next semester. The university has also signed a cooperation agreement with Huatay Electronics to offer a semiconductor packaging and testing program that includes guaranteed interviews and employment incentives.
Meanwhile, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology is emphasizing hands-on training. Its program brings real production-line equipment into classrooms, covering processes such as metallization, thin-film deposition, etching, thermal diffusion, and photolithography. The facility currently trains about 160 students per semester, with capacity expected to expand significantly.
University officials say the goal is to ensure graduates can move directly into high-demand semiconductor roles, strengthening Kaohsiung’s position as the core of southern Taiwan’s semiconductor corridor.
