    Martha Argerich to perform in Pingtung for arts center anniversary

    PINGTUNG — Argentine pianist Martha Argerich will lead a chamber music concert at the Pingtung Performing Arts Center (屏東演藝廳) on Nov. 15 as part of the venue’s 10th-anniversary program.

    The concert, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., will also be one of the main events of the 2026 South Wind Music Festival.

    Argerich will be joined by Belgian violinists Michael Guttman and Yossif Ivanov, as well as Taiwanese violinist William Wei (魏靖儀), who became a co-concertmaster of the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in May.

    The other performers include violist Lyda Chen-Argerich, cellist Jing Zhao, and pianists Dong-Hyek Lim and Theodosia Ntokou.

    The program will feature chamber works by Mozart, Debussy, Schumann, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, and Liszt, according to the Pingtung County Government’s Cultural Affairs Department.

    Festival runs from September through December

    The South Wind Music Festival will bring Taiwanese and international performers to the Pingtung Performing Arts Center and Pingtung Performing Arts Hall from September through December.

    The program includes a joint production by U-Theatre and Indigenous singer Sangpuy, a performance by Tjimur Dance Theatre, and a series of family concerts, musicals, operas, plays, and a cappella performances.

    Holders of Pingtung’s Arts Card (藝遊卡) may purchase tickets from 2 p.m. on July 27. General ticket sales will begin at 2 p.m. on July 31.

    Program and ticket information will be available through the Pingtung County Government Cultural Affairs Department website and the Pingtung Performing Arts Facebook page.
