TAINAN — A major fire broke out Wednesday evening at an unmarked pawned-vehicle storage yard on Pei’an Road (培安路) in Tainan’s Annan District (安南區), destroying more than 160 cars and over 200 motorcycles, according to the Tainan City Fire Bureau.

The bureau said it received the report at 7:33 p.m. and dispatched 33 fire engines, 73 firefighters, and 40 volunteer firefighters to the scene. By the time crews arrived, multiple vehicles were already engulfed in flames. Water operations began at 7:42 p.m., and the blaze was brought under control at 8:36 p.m.

Officials said the site consisted of a single-story metal structure that was half open-air and half enclosed, with the fire affecting roughly 100 square meters. Authorities confirmed no one was trapped and no injuries or fatalities were reported.

After extinguishing the flames, firefighters verified the number of vehicles destroyed and noted significant property losses. Fire investigators will now examine the scene to determine the cause. The storage yard’s manager has arrived on site and will receive fire prevention guidance from local authorities.

Nearby residents reported hearing a loud explosion followed by continuous blasts as vehicles ignited, with many filming the incident and sharing footage on social media. Police have cordoned off the area to allow investigators to proceed with the cause-of-fire inquiry.
