KAOHSIUNG — Former president Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) visited Kaohsiung on Saturday for a public walk through Guoling Nature Park (果嶺自然公園), joining Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) and Democratic Progressive Party Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Lai Jui-lung (賴瑞隆) in an appearance that had the feel of an informal campaign stop. Reports from local media and CNA said Tsai had originally been expected to hike Shoushan (壽山), commonly known in some expat circles as Monkey Mountain, before the plan was changed to the park route.

Crowds along the route greeted Tsai enthusiastically, with some calling out “Xiao Ying, I love you,” while others stopped to take photos. CNA reported that Tsai also paused to pose with families and young children during the walk. Chen told reporters that Guoling Nature Park offered better airflow and more comfortable conditions than Shoushan for a morning outing, while Lai said the day’s route covered roughly half of the former golf course’s 18-hole loop.

The visit came as Tsai has remained highly visible on social media after leaving office, with recent appearances alongside Democratic Progressive Party candidates in other parts of Taiwan.

According to local coverage, Tsai’s Kaohsiung itinerary was expected to continue later in the day with visits to the reopened rooftop amusement area at Talee’s department store (大立百貨) and Cieding’s Oyster Market (蚵仔寮漁市), again accompanied by Lai. Media reports described the outing as part of a broader “one-day Kaohsiung” schedule.
