KAOHSIUNG — A Mercedes-Benz driver who allegedly blocked a narrow mountain road at Wuling (武嶺) during the National Day holiday faces a criminal investigation, Nantou police said Oct. 11.
The Mercedes-Benz C300 was left in the roadway on Oct. 10 as visitors crowded into the Wuling area of Hehuanshan (合歡山). Images of the resulting traffic jam circulated online, drawing complaints from other road users, according to Lai Media.

Officers responded to reports of the obstruction, but the car had been moved before they arrived.
The Nantou County Police Department’s Renai Precinct (南投縣政府警察局仁愛分局) said it was collecting footage and other evidence and would refer the driver to prosecutors for investigation into suspected endangerment of public passage under Article 185 of the Criminal Code. Whether the conduct constitutes a criminal offense remains to be determined.
Police initially said they had not issued a parking ticket because the vehicle was gone when officers arrived, and the applicable reporting rules restricted enforcement based on photographs supplied by members of the public, TVBS reported.
The precinct subsequently emphasized that restrictions on reporting certain traffic violations do not exempt conduct that endangers public passage from potential criminal liability.
Police also warned that blocking narrow mountain roads can obstruct ambulances and other emergency vehicles, particularly during busy holiday periods.
