North Kaohsiung’s Xiangping Park Splash Zone Ends Trial Run, Set to Reopen in April

KAOHSIUNG — Xiangping Park’s splash zone in Nanzih District (楠梓) has wrapped up its short trial run after drawing steady crowds through late October. The Public Works Bureau (工務局) says the water-play area will officially open each year from April to September, operating daily from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with Mondays reserved for maintenance.

Located on the west side of Xiangping Park (享平公園), the 0.21-hectare playground sits in the city’s 60th self-developed urban renewal zone, surrounded by dense residential blocks. According to reports in the Liberty Daily, the design is fully open-air and built around movement: a landscape-style slide, shallow water channels, spray platforms, pressurized water cannons, a flower-shower feature, and a pedal-powered water wheel. A small stepping pool and tiered waterway area round out the layout. Simple changing areas and rinse-off spaces sit along the perimeter.

The zone began trial operations on October 24 and quickly earned a reputation as a “water paradise” for families in northern Kaohsiung. It’s a seven-minute walk from TRA Nanzih Station (台鐵楠梓車站), with a paid parking lot next door — two factors that kept the turnout strong until temperatures dropped.

Parks and Street Lights Office officials (公園處) said that over the rest of the year, the park will still have normal operations for walking, exercise, and community use.

Public Works Bureau Director Yang Chin-fu (楊欽富) said the splash zone is just one piece of a broader plan to make the park a more attractive neighborhood space. New greenery, looped walking paths, and shaded seating have been added to complement the water features. “It’s meant to be more than a place to cool off,” Yang said. “We want it to be one of the most welcoming leisure spots in north Kaohsiung.”

The splash zone will reopen in April 2026.
