PINGTUNG — The Pingtung County Government (屏東縣政府) has launched a multilingual menu initiative in Kenting’s commercial district, aiming to make dining easier for international visitors and boost tourism across the Hengchun Peninsula.

Designated as a pilot site, the program provides one-on-one support to 12 selected restaurants. Professional translators helped convert menus—previously available only in Chinese or basic English—into Japanese and Korean, with clearer descriptions and transparent pricing to reduce confusion for overseas diners.

County officials said language accessibility has become increasingly important as international travel rebounds, influencing both visitor experience and spending habits.

Beyond the pilot program, the Transportation and Tourism Department introduced a standardized seven-language menu template in Chinese, American English, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese. The templates are free for local businesses and market vendors to use, lowering translation barriers.

Officials emphasized that the initiative goes beyond direct translation, focusing on explaining culinary characteristics and cultural context so visitors can better understand Taiwanese food traditions. The county plans to expand the program alongside tourism events, helping more businesses improve their readiness for international guests.
