TAIWAN — Pingtung County’s population has fallen to an estimated 777,632 in 2026, according to data published by World Population Review, which says the county has continued to lose residents in recent years.

The site said Pingtung’s population stood at 841,253 in 2015, meaning the county has declined by more than 63,000 people over roughly the past decade. It said the county lost 5,782 residents over the past year alone, an annual drop of 0.74 percent.

Pingtung’s 0.74 percent decline is close to the pace reported for Yunlin County, down 0.73 percent, and slightly smaller than the 0.99 percent drop shown for Chiayi County. The figures shown for Pingtung were based on Taiwan Ministry of the Interior household registration snapshots taken each December, combined with what the site described as its own internal projections.

The same dataset showed that several other parts of Taiwan were also shrinking. Kaohsiung was listed at 2,713,913, down 0.32 percent, while Tainan was listed at 1,849,281, down 0.25 percent. Changhua County was shown at 1,207,402, down 0.75 percent. By contrast, some areas, including Taoyuan and Hsinchu County, were still recording growth.

NOTE: Because the 2026 number is described as an estimate rather than a final official count, it should be read as a projection based on recent registration trends rather than a definitive year-end population total.
