KAOHSIUNG — A rail-themed playground has opened beneath the Taiwan High Speed Rail (台灣高鐵) viaduct in Renwu District (仁武區), turning space near Jhongjheng Road (中正路) into a new recreation area for local families.
The site, commonly called the Renwu HSR Viaduct Linear Park (仁武高鐵橋下帶狀公園), opened to the public in September following final inspections, according to a local project update.
Its centerpiece is a play structure modeled after a high-speed train. Children can enter through several climbing routes and leave using three terrazzo slides or a sliding pole. A second play area includes rope nets, sloped climbing surfaces and a smaller slide.
The park also has a balance-bike course with straight sections, curves and a gentle incline. Other facilities include several types of swings, horizontal bars, fitness equipment and public restrooms.
Much of the recreation area is positioned beneath the elevated railway, providing some protection from the sun and rain. However, parts of the playground extend beyond the viaduct’s cover.
The playground is part of a broader improvement project beneath the tracks that also includes an adjacent dog park and neighborhood plaza. The facilities were originally expected to open in June, according to a May site inspection update, but were still undergoing final checks in August.
