KAOHSIUNG — One of Taiwan’s longest-running celebrity charitable sports traditions is returning to where it all began. Sun Star, founded by entertainer and baseball enthusiast Tony Sun (Sun Hsieh-chih 孫協志), will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the 2025 Classic Star Charity Baseball Game on December 7, at the Cheng Cing Lake Stadium in Kaohsiung, the hometown of its founder.

The organization, first launched in Kaohsiung in 2005, has spent the past two decades pairing entertainment with philanthropy, raising funds, awareness, and national attention through annual celebrity baseball exhibitions. This year’s slogan — “Back to where we started, onward to the world” — reflects both commemoration and renewed ambition.

Organizers emphasized the difficulty of sustaining a charitable project for two decades in the entertainment industry, thanking longtime supporters for remaining “unshaken and present through every season.”

Each year, there are two charity game events. The last one was held at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium on November 16 and received strong media attention, in part due to the participation of the well-known cheerleader, Nam Min-Jeong.

Many are looking forward to seeing the Wing Stars (TSG Hawks’ cheerleaders) at the game in Kaohsiung on Sunday.

    Kaohsiung’s Role

This year’s return carries symbolic weight. Kaohsiung was both Tony Sun’s hometown and the original launch point of the Sun Star project 20 years ago. Local organizers are promoting the game as a homecoming celebration and a recognition of southern Taiwan’s role in shaping one of the island’s most enduring entertainment-charity hybrids.

The Kaohsiung Times will follow up with an interview with Mr. Sun following the game on Sunday.
