The Taiwan Lantern Festival will take place in Chiayi County this March, with major exhibition areas centered around the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) Chiayi Station. THSR announced early this week that it will add 38 extra train services during the festival period, which runs from March 3 (Tuesday) to March 15 (Sunday).
According to the company, the additional services include 21 southbound and 17 northbound trains. Advance ticket sales for the extra services are expected to open in stages starting February 12.
To accommodate increased passenger volume, THSR will also run more Taichung–Zuoying shuttle services and increase the number of non-reserved seating cars on selected evening trains. Crowd-control measures and separate entry and exit flows will be implemented at Chiayi Station, with traffic restrictions planned in surrounding areas during peak periods.
THSR is also promoting a range of “THSR Holidays” travel products tied to the lantern festival, including hotel-and-ticket bundles and domestic travel packages that allow passengers to add discounted high-speed rail tickets when booking accommodation, attractions, or guided tours.
Among the highlighted options is a one-day Chiayi itinerary combining Culture Road dining, Hinoki Village, and the Shantou Sugar Factory Cultural Park, with dedicated shuttle transport connecting key sites before evening visits to the lantern festival.
Additional lantern-themed travel products are available for events in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, with select hotel packages offering additional gifts and discounts. THSR said the expanded services and bundled travel options are designed to ease congestion while encouraging visitors to explore Chiayi and nearby cities during the festival period.
