KAOHSIUNG — Two men were abducted in a suspected debt dispute late Sunday night in Fongshan District (鳳山區), prompting a police pursuit that ended with multiple arrests and an ongoing manhunt.
According to Fongshan Police Precinct (鳳山分局), a 26-year-old surnamed Song allegedly owed NT$250,000 in gambling-related debt and had refused to meet the creditor. The creditor, a 34-year-old surnamed Chang, is accused of arranging a meeting using a young woman as a decoy.
Song and a friend surnamed Wen traveled to a parking lot on Rueising Road (瑞興路) shortly before 11 p.m. Upon arrival, two vehicles — a Maserati and a BMW — carrying Chang and five accomplices arrived at the scene. Police said the suspects smashed Song’s car windows with a baseball bat, forcibly pulled both men from the vehicle, bound their hands, and covered their heads before forcing them into the cars.
Bystanders reported the incident, prompting officers to rush to the scene. One vehicle attempted to flee, ramming through a parking gate and sparking against the road surface before being intercepted at the intersection of Bo’ai Road (博愛路) and Rueising Road. Police rescued the two victims and arrested three suspects at the scene.
The second vehicle entered a dead-end alley, where several suspects fled on foot. The primary suspect, Chang, was taken into custody after experiencing physical distress and was escorted to a hospital under police guard. Two suspects remain at large.
Police said the case is being investigated on suspicion of unlawful detention, coercion, property damage, and assault, and will be referred to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors’ Office (高雄地檢署).
