- TAIWAN NEWS – Foreign minister backs Kaohsiung DPP mayoral primary candidate amid legal issues: “Foreign Minister and leader of the DPP’s Taiwan Normal Country Promotion Association faction, Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), along with other DPP officials, voiced support on Wednesday for DPP Legislator Lin Tai-hua (林岱樺), a candidate in the Kaohsiung mayoral primary. Lin Tai-hua was indicted by the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors’ Office on June 23 for allegedly embezzling NT$14 million (US$456,000) in legislative aide salaries. She has defended her innocence, claiming no motive or actions that would justify the alleged crimes, per CNA.”
- ICRT News – Taiwan’s First Hydrogen Bus Set for Global Debut: “Taiwan’s first locally built hydrogen-powered bus is heading overseas for its international debut. The vehicle, built by startup Hydrogen Valley Power Company, was unveiled Thursday at the Kaohsiung City Council.”
- TAIPEI TIMES – Kaohsiung’s Green Transition: “Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai … attended the Taiwan Climate Action Expo at Kaohsiung’s Pier 2 Art Center [on October 25, 2025]. Chen said that as Kaohsiung accounts for one-fifth of Taiwan’s carbon emissions, the city bears a heavy responsibility for cutting emissions and must accelerate its net-zero transition.
- TAIWAN NEWS – Pegatron opens 2nd Taiwan R&D center in Kaohsiung. Facility targets talent development and pilot projects in AI, 5G, smart manufacturing: “Electronics manufacturer Pegatron on Tuesday opened its second Taiwan R&D center in the Asia New Bay Area of Kaohsiung’s Qianzhen District to support its manufacturing capacity in Southeast Asia. At the opening ceremony, Company Chair Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢) said that Pegatron will invest about NT$700 million (US$21.5 million) over the next three years in the facility for talent development and pilot projects in AI, 5G, and smart manufacturing. - CAPA – Spring Airlines to resume Shanghai-Kaohsiung service from Feb-2026: “Spring Airlines is scheduled to resume three times weekly Shanghai Pudong-Kaohsiung service with A320 equipment from 01-Feb-2026, according to OAG and the CAPA Route Capacity Analyser (CAAC-News, 26-Oct-2025). Juneyao Air, EVA Air, and China Airlines also operate the route.”
- TRAICY – Tigerair Taiwan launches twice-weekly Kumamoto (Japan)–Kaohsiung charter flights from Dec 23: “Tigerair Taiwan will operate charter flights on the Kumamoto (Japan)–Kaohsiung route starting December 23. There will be two round trips per week on Tuesdays and Fridays. An Airbus A320 will be used. The scheduled flight time is 2 hours 55 minutes from Kumamoto and 2 hours 5 minutes from Kaohsiung. These will operate as charter flights. On the same route, its parent company, China Airlines, also operates four weekly round trips on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.”
- TAIWAN NEWS – Kaohsiung fines Kerry TJ Logistics for swine fever prevention violations: ” As Taiwan grapples with an outbreak of African swine fever, Kerry TJ Logistics was fined by the Kaohsiung Department of Health for failing to follow epidemic-prevention measures, per UDN. The company, which operates a large fleet of delivery trucks, was accused of transporting meat suspected of being infected with African swine fever, delaying the submission of delivery manifests, and falsely claiming several delivery vehicles were not equipped with GPS tracking devices, UDN reported.”
- LAST WEEK IN HISTORY – Global Times: “On October 22, 1945, three days before the ceremony, authorities introduced a renaming policy for Taipei, Keelung and Kaohsiung, replacing all Japanese names within two months with names reflecting Chinese cultural values — such as Ren’ai (Benevolence and Love), Xinyi (Faith and Righteousness) — and honoring national figures like Sun Yat-sen. Zhongshan Road became one of the city’s main axes, symbolizing unity with the Chinese nation, according to the historian.”
