TAINAN — The 2026 Tainan (臺南) “Ancient Capital International Half Marathon” (2026 臺南古都國際半程馬拉松) began at 5:30 a.m. today, March 1, at the Yonghua Municipal Center (永華市政中心). Organizers reported a record 25,289 registered runners, including 417 overseas participants from 36 countries.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said participation has grown steadily each year thanks to support from government agencies, sponsors, and volunteers. He noted that the city hopes to continue expanding the event to become Taiwan’s largest half-marathon.
Total prize money exceeds NT$1 million this year, with the half-marathon champion receiving NT$100,000, the highest top prize for a half-marathon in Taiwan. New categories include a student division to encourage youth participation and a health leisure experience group for runners with disabilities, emphasizing inclusive sports access.
The course passed major cultural landmarks such as the Tainan Art Museum (台南市美術館), Judicial Museum (司法博物館), and Tainan Confucius Temple (台南孔廟), and extends into the Anping Port area (安平港區), offering runners views of historic and harbor scenery.

Known informally as a “food challenge race,” the event again featured extensive refreshment stations. Commemorative race items include three themed towel capes, such as a 20th anniversary edition and designs inspired by traditional “sugar sack” and market bag motifs, along with a special anniversary medal charm.
