KAOHSIUNG — A narrow residential lane in Kaohsiung’s Cianjhen District (前鎮區) that residents say had been deteriorating for three decades has finally been fully resurfaced, following months of inter-agency coordination.

Sinsheng Road Lane 148 (新生路148巷), a roughly six-meter-wide access road near the river, had long served as a key route for residents but remained in poor condition due to overlapping administrative responsibilities. According to local officials, the road fell under the partial jurisdiction of multiple agencies, including parks, public works, water resources, and the district office, creating a bureaucratic deadlock that prevented comprehensive repairs.

Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Yan-yu (黃彥毓) said the issue was first formally raised with his office in June 2025. After a series of on-site inspections and coordination meetings between departments, the city was able to align responsibilities and move forward with a full resurfacing and drainage improvement project, completed earlier this month.

Residents had previously described the situation as a “half-lifetime wait,” with only patchwork repairs carried out over the years. The completed upgrade is expected to improve both traffic flow and flood resilience in the low-lying riverside area.

Huang noted that while large-scale infrastructure projects often dominate public attention, smaller neighborhood-level fixes can have a more immediate impact on daily life. He said similar cases of long-delayed local improvements will continue to be reviewed, particularly in older parts of Cianjhen and neighboring Siaogang District (小港區).
