KAOHSIUNG — The city’s Tourism Bureau announced today that the Kaohsiung Green Park (also known as Guoling Nature Park – 果嶺自然公園)—a massive 70-hectare transformation of a former golf course—will host a sprawling “Spring Picnic Fun” festival over two consecutive weekends starting April 25.

The project marks the first time in Taiwan that a golf course has been converted into a public nature park. With 7.2 kilometers of trails winding through former fairways, the park, say officials, has quickly become a bird-watching sanctuary and a “green lung” for the city.

    Red Balls and Bubble Suits

The Liberty Times reports that to celebrate the transformation, Tourism Bureau Director Gao Min-lin unveiled a lineup of “new ways to play” in the park from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM (April 25-26 & May 1-3):

    • “Hung Tung Tung” (紅咚咚) Art: Giant, vibrant red ball installations have been placed on fairways 1, 9, and 10, creating a striking visual contrast against the deep green landscape.
    • The OB Bubble Zone: On fairway No. 10, visitors can suit up in giant inflatable bubble gear to roll down the hills.
    • Aesthetic Picnicking: A curated market of 15 boutique brands will offer gourmet light bites and artisan drinks.

Street performers, including magicians, jugglers, and storytellers, will all be performing, and for the May Day holiday (May 1–3), the city’s mascot, Kaohsiung Bear, will make surprise appearances to greet families.
