KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung City Government has launched a public urban renewal project in Zuoying District’s Guomao area (左營果貿), with plans to attract NT$14.6 billion in investment and build five buildings, including student housing for a national research and education campus, Liberty Times reported.
Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-rong (林欽榮) said the project is closely tied to southern Taiwan’s talent development because of its proximity to the National Key Fields Intercollegiate Research and Education Park (國家重點領域校際研教園區), Old Zuoying (左營舊城), Guomao New Village (果貿新村), Lotus Pond (蓮池潭), the Kaohsiung Arena commercial area, Xinzuoying Railway Station and THSR Zuoying Station.
The renewal area covers two land parcels in the Guomao section, totaling 2.48 hectares. Lin said the research and education park includes three sites, with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University’s Kaohsiung campus at Site A, National Tsing Hua University’s Kaohsiung campus at Site B, and Site C included in the Guomao urban renewal project.
Site C, on Cuihua Road (翠華路), is planned for a second hall for the research and education park, a multifunctional activity center, parking facilities, and student housing. The buildings there would be about eight to 10 stories tall, with two underground floors.
Another parcel near Chengfeng Road (城峰路) is planned for four buildings ranging from 11 to 29 stories, with four underground floors and more than 800 parking spaces. The developer would be required to return 80 parking spaces to the city.
The city expects to select the preferred applicant in October, sign a contract in November, and require completion within three years after construction begins, the report said.
