KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) has ordered city agencies to finalize traffic, safety, and rain contingency plans ahead of the Aug. 8 opening of the new family playground at the former Taiwan Railways Kaohsiung Workshop.
Chen gave the instructions during a city administrative meeting on August 4, stating that the new recreation area is expected to draw large crowds.
He said the Public Works Bureau, Tourism Bureau, and Cultural Affairs Bureau should complete checks of park facilities and opening activities, while also preparing backup plans in case of rain.
Chen also asked the Transportation Bureau, Mass Rapid Transit Bureau, and Police Department to strengthen traffic control around the site, including nearby roads, public transport links, and parking areas.
The city said the goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and smooth visitor experience for people coming from across Taiwan.
The playground is being developed at the former Taiwan Railways Kaohsiung Workshop, turning part of the old industrial site into a large family recreation area while preserving railway heritage.
The city has previously said the site will include play, exercise and recreation facilities for children and adults.
